Spooky SPAM® Mummies

These SPAM® Mummies will make a really fun and tasty addition to a Halloween party.  They are super easy to make, the kids can even get involved in making them.  They can be eaten hot or cold.  Serve with ketchup or sweet chilli sauce for a ‘blood’ dip.

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C Fan/Gas mark 6.
  • Cut the SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham into 10 equal sticks.
  • In a small bow mix together the honey, ketchup and mustard and brush over the SPAM®.
  • Cut the sheet of pastry vertically into strips 5mm wide. You will need 2-3 strips to wrap each stick. Wrap the pastry strips around each SPAM® stick to create a mummy-wrap effect. Brush with the beaten egg, then put on a lined baking tray.
  • Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden, and the SPAM® is cooked through. Decorate with edible eyes and serve with the condiments - enjoy!

Notes

SPAM® Chopped Pork & Ham is a versatile store-cupboard ingredient that is made from more than 90% Shoulder Pork & Leg Ham.  A 200g tub is currently available from Tesco and Asda. 200g and 340g cans are available from major UK supermarkets.
